kittenspeaks @ 12:39 am: Chicago Agents
Hello All.
I am searching for a good agent (or two) here in Chicago. I have a TON of stage experience, a moderate amount of art print, a little film, a little commercial and industrial, some voice-work and a TON of convention and trade show. I am looking for someone honest who will actually send me on auditions. So, I don't need anyone big (since I don't have the experience yet) but some one who is kinda busy. (After all, if the agent isn't getting work neither will their clients.

Any suggestions or advice would be fantastic.
Thanks!!

There are many good ones but you need to decide what you are after. There are strong agents for different venues. Your best bet is to get a respectable resume built up and mail them out to them all as you don not have to have an exclusive agent in Chicago. Howver, if you want one that will work hardest for you I suggest you select one you love and "marry" them. Good luck!

But of the "many"- are there some you would suggest.
I have a strong resume for theater, commercial and industrial. I have a pretty good resume for voice over and film. I am more than happy to mail stuff out but I don't want to waste their time or mine. And well, headshots aren't exactly cheap...

Getting an agent is not wasting your time. In fact, I would erase that thought from your head completely. You will not get into any professional audition without one so unfortunately they are your only ticket in the door.
I would try sending your photos to every agent in Chicago. Some of the better ones are Shirley Hamilton, Geddes, Gray Talent, and Aria. You can also try smaller boutique agencies like Paonessa Talent. The bottom line here is that you want to try anything and everything you can to get your foot in the door. If you're not willing to do that, get out of the business now.
Best of luck. Keep me posted.
